After one Utah bride’s father suddenly passed away, her brothers still made sure she had their dad to dance with from heaven on her wedding day.
“I was completely in shock. I know people joke about having an out-of-body experience, but that is what it truly was, being in the middle of the ballroom and surrounded by my family, and my husband’s family, and our friends and people we care about with my brothers stepping up,” bride Kaley West Young told television station KUTV over the phone from her honeymoon in Italy. “It was an incredible moment.”
Young’s 5 older brothers – Kevin, Dustin, Danny, Derek and Kasey – edited Michael Bolton song, “Fathers and Daughters,” to include the voice of her father, David Jean West, who died suddenly in March 2015. You can watch the wedding video here.
“It’s every girl’s dream to dance with their father. Obviously she can’t do that with him tonight but us brothers want her to have that opportunity and we’d like to dance with her for the father-daughter dance,” one of the brothers announced before the big surprise. “We ask that everybody stay as quiet as possible during the dance as we pay tribute to our father, and really listen to the words of this song. It’s a song we want to surprise Kaley with. She doesn’t know that we’ve chosen this song, so we hope she loves it.”
Needless to say, as the Bolton song began, the bride was moved to tears.
“My name is Dave West and I’m Kaley’s dad, and I love her very much. 1,800 times worth,” the voice of their late father can be heard at the beginning of the song.
The brothers took turns dancing with their beloved sister on the dance floor as she emotionally wipes the tears from her eyes, overwhelmed by their incredible gesture.
The tender moment even reached Michael Bolton himself, who wrote a personal message to the family on his own social media accounts.
“I’m so humbled and honored that the West brothers choose my song #FathersandDaughters to dance with their sister Kaley at her wedding. Their video brought me to tears,” the singer tweeted.

Bolton also commented on the brother’s YouTube video of the wedding dance.
“This brought tears to my eyes,” he wrote. “Thank u so much for honoring me and my music in this way. Wishing you all the love in the world.”
Kaley’s brother Kevin West told KUTV that their dad “played a huge role” in their sister’s life which influenced their decision to find a way to incorporate him posthumously in the father-daughter dance.
“A few months back, we told Kaley we had a surprise for her and that we were working on something but we kept it a surprise the entire time,” Kevin told the station. “We searched tons of songs, and Bolton’s song just appeared. My dad was a crazy home video guy, and we knew we had something golden there, so we watched all those home videos and took those sound bites directed to Kaley and incorporated those into the song. It worked out perfect.”
The bride said this video isn’t about her or her brothers, but rather, “it’s about the most important thing in life, which is our loved ones,” Kaley said. “Every single person experiences loss, or will experience loss, in those moments can be deep sorrow and despair. However, I want it to be a reminder that you are never alone. Love transcends beyond the physical body and whoever is going through a great loss, no matter what it may be, you are never alone and you are loved.”
