Maria Jorstad is a mother of 1-month-old triplets. Throughout her pregnancy with multiples, she’s been very candid about her progress, sharing weekly photos of her growing belly.
This incredible photo shows her right before giving birth, with her 44-pound baby bump. “We are SO ready for the next chapter!,” she wrote on the post.
The triplets have officially arrived, and they couldn’t be more precious. The over-the-moon mom described holding her bundles of joy as “pure bliss.” However, Maria is now sharing her struggles with her postpartum body.
Her real-life postpartum experience is candid and all-too-relatable, and is inspiring women across the globe with her bravery to show off her beautiful belly.
“🚨Vent warning🚨 Day 4 and it has been quite a ride body wise. The first two days I could barely stand up because of extreme pain in the C-section wound, but the nurses made me walk a bit anyway. If I didn’t, it would become even worse, they told me. In addition to that it has been three days with my bowels constantly twisting and turning like snakes (you wont believe the sight of it!), causing much pain. And to top it off my milk started coming in already yesterday, and has caused huge and very painful breast engorgement. My nurse actually asked if I have implants!”
In a series of incredibly raw and honest posts, she shared photos of her postpartum belly, explaining she’s “really impatient to get my body back.”
Here she is 1-week postpartum.
“I now have a really weird looking hanging belly, which is still quite heavy. My uterus has not shrinked back yet. Because my belly was so stretched it takes longer than usual. I’m gonna get a belly band/support binder asap, because it’s quite annoying and the sagging makes my c-section scar hurt.”
Maria is currently 4-weeks postpartum. It normally takes a uterus 6 to 8 weeks to return to its normal size, but due to her having triplets, it can take longer.
“I still have a weird looking hanging belly, and I am a bit surprised it has not gotten smaller since my last picture three weeks ago. Kind of disappointing I must admit, and I am not too happy to share this picture. On the positive side the C-section scar doesn’t hurt anymore, and in the last two days I’ve almost felt like myself again! Except for this heavy sagging belly that is.”
People on social media have been flooding her with words of encouragement and support.
“You’re beautiful!!!!,” wrote one user.
“She’s my hero,” said another.
“You are beautiful! I recently gave birth to twin boys as a surrogate and my belly is forever changed. I wouldn’t change a thing about it all to have the experience. Definitely hangs a lot lower but again worth it!” one person encouraged her.
“You just had triplets. You look great. I have the same belly with just 1 baby. I think I take after my mother… all the stretch marks and all,” another said.
It’s a beautiful thing when mothers come together to lift each other up. Maria shared this precious photo of her triplets, Iben, Agnes, and Filip, showing how far they’ve come. Hang in there mama, you’ve got this!
