“If a mom doesn’t do it, it won’t get done.
So, she packs the lunches the night before the way her children like.
She reads all the notices, checks homework, and puts money in her child’s backpack for the Bookfair.
She writes emails to teachers and therapists when she has concerns about her children.
She organizes playdates with her children’s friends, books medical checkups, and schedules after-school activities.
Because if a mom doesn’t do it, it won’t get done.
She cleans the playroom by scrubbing nail polish stains, picks up make-up, play dough, crayons, dolls, and paper scattered on the floor.
And there’s always a phone call to make,
a load of laundry to be dried,
a meal to be made,
a snack to be opened,
and a bill to be paid.
But if a mom doesn’t do it, it won’t get done.
And she can’t help but be jealous as she sees her partner slowly get ready for work—shower, spray cologne, make himself a hot mug of coffee—while she throws on clothes, ties up her hair in a messy bun, and gets everyone dressed, brushed, fed and into the car.
And yes, these may seem like small tasks, but they add up until they consume her.
Because if a mom doesn’t do it, it won’t get done.
And her body and mind hurt at times, but she still moms on.
Because when it comes down to it,
she wants to make sure her children are cared for in the best way possible.
And no one loves them more than her.
So, in her mind,
it falls on her to ensure that.”
