“Today, you wanted to be a superhero.
But we didn’t have any superhero costumes.
So you made one.
All by yourself.
Complete with gloves, a mask, and a cape.
You told me the world needs more good guys, and you wanted to help make it a better place.
You are so right, my sweet baby.
The world does need more good guys.
The world is hurting right now.
The world is broken, and so many people are desperately trying to put the pieces back together.
It’s not going to be easy.
It’s not going to happen overnight.
But I believe in my heart that it can happen.
When things seem hopeless and impossible, when everything is dark and filled with hate and pain and divisiveness, I look at you.
And I remember that you are the future.
I remember we have an incredible opportunity to raise a generation of good guys.
Full of hope.
Full of imagination and wonder.
Full of acceptance and forgiveness.
Full of creativity.
Full of unity and diversity.
Full of love.
Baby, I pray you never stop wanting to make this world a better place.
I pray you will always keep fighting for what you believe in and what is right.
I pray you will be kind to others.
I pray you will never be afraid to use your voice.
I pray you will always accept every person just as they are.
Because we definitely could use a few more good guys around here.
And we definitely could use some superheroes.
Just like you.”
