I May Not Get Chocolates And Flowers On Valentine’s Day, But My Husband Pre-Opens My Water Bottles For Me

“This is not an anti-valentines day post.

It’s a ‘do me a favor girls’ post.

Before you start scrolling social media and watching stories and liking posts of girls showing off their flowers and chocolates,

Before you start thinking to yourself, ‘Ugh she’s so lucky.’

I want you to look at yourself and just for a second, pretend this day didn’t exist, and I want you to remember all the ways your partner shows you love that is not limited to material representation.

I want you to remember the ways you’re loved that flowers simply cannot account for.

I look at my relationship and I remember how my husband pre-opens my water bottles and puts them on my nightstand.

I remember how my husband makes sure my car always has gas so I don’t have to worry about it.

I remember how every time I look back at our photos, there’s always a picture in there where I find him admiring me rather than looking at the camera.

I remember how he prepares my coffee machine every single morning so all I have to do is press a button.

I remember how he does laundry.

And washes dishes,

And sweeps,

And mops,

And loads the dishwasher,

And never makes me feel like I’m alone.

I remember all the ways he loves me every day and I’m grateful he loves me in ways that matter to me and in ways that actually make me happy.

I want you to remember the little things, that matter so much more in the grand scheme of things.

When you’re looking at other people’s posts and brags, remember all of our stories are different.

Sure it’s nice, but believe me, it’s not everything, and it really shouldn’t be.”
