It started out as a good-humored reply to his girlfriend’s texts checking in on the kids. Now, it is a regularly anticipated occurrence. “Her first reaction was laughter and confusion,” says Kenny Deuss, the dad behind the creatively comedic pictures.
“Our 3-month-old daughter wasn’t capable of sitting yet, but she was sitting on the sidewalk, hitchhiking to the moon in an astronaut suit.”
His girlfriend immediately showed it to her colleagues and they all thought it was hilarious. Now, every Tuesday when it’s Kenny’s turn to watch the kids, they look forward to a cleverly-crafted picture in response to her inquiry over the state of the children.
Soon, Daddy Deuss decided to start sharing the pictures on Instagram so others might enjoy them as much as his girlfriend and her co-workers.
“The reactions are amazing. I get so many positive reactions from people who really appreciate the humor. Sometimes, people say I’ve made their day. That’s the best compliment I can get.”
The cheeky dad still works full-time and does his best to continue enjoying his many hobbies, picture-making being just one of them. Admitting time-management is not a strong suit during his hectic schedule, Daddy Deuss believes pursuing your own interests is one of the most challenging parts of being a parent. But also one of the most important!
“I want my children to look up to a dad who is making music, loves to skateboard, takes pictures, and includes them in my hobbies,” Kenny says. While his followers sometimes suggest ideas for his pictures, Kenny says the best ideas come from simple, daily-life situations, many of which feature the kids as part of Daddy Deuss’ hobbies.
Kenny also loves to create funny “Dad Fail” pictures. For example, the picture of Kenny and the baby caught in the rain while out for a stroll (see #9 below). The young dad stands dry under his umbrella during the downpour, but it appears the baby in the stroller will return home quite wet. Deuss admits this is his way of light-heartedly making fun of these “clumsy dad” situations that can happen.
But have no fear, Daddy Deuss always assures his girlfriend, and his followers, the pictures are taken in safe conditions. Because, after all, this all started with Mom just wanting to make sure the baby was okay.
