Dayko the rescue dog saved the lives of seven people during an earthquake in Ecuador recently.
The 4-year-old Labrador retriever spent three and a half years with its K-9 unit, training for rescue efforts.
The fire department in Ibarra noted, “Dayko joined our canine program when he was just a year old. Since his arrival, he captivated us with his compassionate gaze and his friendly character.”
Dayko battled the flames, continuing to find new victims buried in the rubble, 7 lives were saved as a result of this heroic K-9. Dayko later passed rom a heart attack.
The fire department continued, “The Fire Department of Ibarra would like to express a brotherly thanks to all the people who gave us their support, and not only in regards to the death of our beloved canine Dayko,”
One fireman mentioned how rambunctious Dayko was, running off to mate with female dogs. Another noted, “One time he dragged me all the way to a lake cause he loved water. Luckily I had a ball with me to draw him out of there, cause there was no power in this world that could get him out of a swim.”
The earthquake struck on April 16th and was a magnitude 7.8 and has been called the worst in the history of the country.
